Blueland approached Doris Dev in the Fall of 2018 to help lead Design For Manufacturing (DFM) and manufacturing oversight for their line of vessels used to store and dispense their sustainable cleaning products. The challenge: maintain the design-led concepts for their full line of vessels, identify materials that meet stringent Cradle2Cradle standards, integrate and validate an off-gassing valve feature required for optimal user experience, and engage a manufacturing partner to produce and ship finished goods within four months of  kickoff.

DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURING

Doris Dev led the products’ evolution from initial concept (Industrial Design CAD) to manufacturable design.

Material Exploration

Doris Dev helped navigate material selection that met  Blueland criteria, including balancing durability, design aesthetics and meeting Cradle2Cradle Platinum certification for sustainably sourced and produced material options.

Custom Component Design

Blueland’s cleaning tablets produce gas bubbles when dissolved in water, creating high pressure environment inside the vessels. Doris Dev led the design & validation of the custom off-gassing nozzle to allow for a uneventful user experience during the off-gassing of cleaning tablets.

Production Oversight

Doris Dev navigated all the requirements for the program on a limited schedule, successfully setting Blueland up for their highly anticipated launch on Earth Day 2019.
